Historical Importance of the Masjid
This mosque is the Mughal heritage. Aurangzeb built the Badshahi Masjid in 1671, under the supervision of Aurangzeb’s brother Muzaffar Hussain. The construction was completed in 1673, in two years. The design of the masjid is almost the same as the Jama Masjid of Delhi, India built in 1648 by Shah Jahan (Fater of Aurangzeb).
Routine repairs were carried out under the supervision of the Badshahi Mosque Authority, from 1852 onwards. Comprehensive renovations were carried out from 1939 to 1960 at a cost of about 4.8 million rupees.
